Essay Prompt

As a credit union member and future college student, you are stepping into a world where financial decisions shape individual lives, communities, and long‑term opportunity.

Imagine you have been given $10,000 and one year to improve the long‑term financial well‑being of a real community of your choice (such as a neighborhood, school campus, rural town, working families, small business owners, or young adults).

In your essay, describe a finance‑based solution—a program, product, policy, or educational initiative—you would create to address a specific financial challenge within that community.

Please address the following in your response:

  • The problem: What financial issue exists, who it affects, and why it matters.
  • Your solution: How your idea works, why it is financially responsible, and what makes it effective.
  • Impact and challenges: The potential benefits of your idea, along with any obstacles, risks, or trade‑offs.
  • Measuring success: How you would evaluate whether your solution is successful over time.
  • Personal connection: Why this issue is meaningful to you and how it relates to your educational and career goals.

  • Times New Roman, 12‑point font
  • Double‑spaced
  • Essay length may be determined by the applicant but should fully address all components of the prompt
